Lipo-C — Injection
Important Safety Information Regarding Compounded Lipo-C
Please be aware that compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and do not undergo clinical studies to evaluate for safety and efficacy. Your healthcare provider may prescribe compounded Lipo-C based on your medical consultation.
Lipo-C is a compounded lipotropic injection. Formulations vary but commonly contain choline, inositol and methionine together with B vitamins such as cyanocobalamin (B12). These are nutrients involved in normal fat handling and energy metabolism. Lipo-C is prescribed at a provider’s discretion as part of a broader wellness plan. It is not a weight-loss medication, it is not a treatment for any disease, and it is not a substitute for nutrition, activity or prescribed therapy. Ask your provider for the exact composition of the formulation you are prescribed.
Do not use Lipo-C if:
- You have had an allergic reaction to any component of the formulation, including cobalt or vitamin B12.
- You are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- You have homocystinuria or another disorder affecting methionine metabolism.
Inform your healthcare provider if you:
- Have liver or kidney disease.
- Have Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy, in which vitamin B12 can worsen optic nerve damage.
- Have low potassium, or a condition or medication that affects your potassium level.

Serious risks include:
- Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis
- Injection-site infection or abscess if aseptic technique is not followed
- Falls in potassium following correction of a B12 deficiency
Common side effects: pain, redness, itching, bruising or swelling at the injection site, along with mild stomach upset, nausea, loose stools, flushing, headache, and a temporary metallic or fishy taste or body odour associated with choline.
Administration: Inject subcutaneously or intramuscularly on the schedule and at the dose your physician sets — commonly weekly. Use aseptic technique and rotate the injection site with every dose. Do not change your dose or frequency without speaking to your physician.
Monitoring: Your provider may order laboratory work before or during treatment and will review how you are responding at scheduled check-ins.
